Dear Mr. Capone

I am a young British student from Cambridge Sixth Form College, who have just returned from a stay in California. And during this stay I met with some American Carrotmob activists, who made a great impression on me and most importantly gave me an idea.

The Carrotmob organization is a large group of consumers, who tries to influent especially large companies but also politicians as well as other consumers to do something about the biggest threat to our planet. The global warming. They do this because they believe that the large companies are the only ones who are able to do something about this problem, and because they believe that they can make them do this.

Their idea is then that they are a large group of consumers, who does together have a large amount of money. And with those money they have got a lot of power. Power which they will use to affect the big companies to do something in order to help the environment. An example of something they have done, is when they promised a local shop in San Francisco that they would pick a day, and then spend a lot of money in this particular shop that day. And in return the shop needed to spend twenty two percent of what they earned that specific day on environmental improvements. So the shop earned a lot of money, actually more than four times as much as on a normal day, as well as they made some energy efficiency improvements which does now save them even more money. And the consumers helped the environment at the same time as they got the articles they needed. So it was kind of a win-win situation for both the shop, the consumers and the environment.

I am then writing to you because I believe that an initiative similar to this can be done here in Great Britain, and because I hope that Tesco will be willing to participate in this, which I honestly believe can earn you some great benefits. Because by being a part of this Tesco will, just like the shop in San Francisco, not only help the environment, gain good publicity and thereby get one step ahead of your competitors. You will also be able to gain a large economical profit. So this means that you will actually be able to earn money on helping the environment and doing something good for the earth as well as for the whole mankind.

May I then suggest that we arrange a meeting where I can give you a more detailed description of what this whole idea is about, and where we can discuss whether or not Tesco could be interested in participating.

Yours sincerely
