Well not if you look at it geographical. But if you think of how we are able to contact a person anywhere on the globe, and how we can travel almost anywhere we want to, then you might say, that the world has become smaller.

From Denmark it takes less than teen hours to reach China. About eight hours to cross the Atlantic. And twenty hours to get to Sydney in Australia. Comparing that to how it, just a hundred years ago, took many days to travel to just from one end of your country to another, then you’ll see a tremendous difference between now and then. But you don’t even have to go a hundred years back in time, to see how things have changed. Because things which were considered impossible just a few decades ago, has today become real.

And the reason why the world is changing, at a speed we definitely haven’t seen before, is the technological revolution. It has changed our daily life, but it has also changed the way we do business. The fact that we are able to travel to most parts of the world by airplane, allows companies to do business all over the world. It connects the world, and makes companies capable of extending their market, to most parts of the world. Business has therefore become global.

But in order to hold meetings with a persons on the other side of the globe, it’s no longer necessary to go there. The technology has taken us even further. Business meetings can be held online. And to contact a person, almost no matter where the person is, has never been easier.

It’s easy to outsource jobs. Especially because communication is no longer a problem, which makes it possible for companies, to have people working together in several countries.

New things such as smartphones, tablets and laptops also makes us capable of working literally everywhere. Whether it’s on a plane, in a train, or somewhere else, we can always have our “office” with us.

Another thing the technology has changed, is the way we do marketing. In the last few decades marketing has changed from being advertises in the newspaper, to be commercials in radio and TV, to what it is today, where marketing is focused on the social medias such as Facebook and Twitter. And instead of just informing people about your product, marketing is now about making people laugh, make them like your commercial, product and company, and feel connected to it. And the most effective kind of marketing today, is when a commercial turns into a viral hit, where people are sharing your video or whatever it is, with their friends on the social medias. In this way you can get millions to see your commercial, and it doesn’t necessarily require a lot of money, it only requires your creativity.

A lot of jobs now a days are office jobs, where the only tool required is a computer. This means that most of these jobs can easily be done from home. This seems to be a good thing. People don’t have to use time on commuting, and can therefore spend more time on working. There will be less traffic because of the fever cars on the roads. We will safe gas, and therefore reduce the emission of CO2. And people actually work better at home, because there are fewer things to distract them. All this seems to be very good. But do we work more when we are at home? I hardly doubt that, even though it’s what the experts are telling us. I actually think that we are more likely to check Facebook or Twitter, take a short brake, or even go for a run or something, when we are at home, with no one to watch us. Another problem is, that working at home, will be destructive for the social life. The social life which is also an important part of a workplace, and an essential part of the life of a human.

The question is then, will this evolution ever stop? Absolutely not. It is only going one way. And we have reached a point, where the world as we know it, simply cannot work without technology. You could call it a point of no return, because we have become addicted to the computers tablets and smartphones. We rely on technology. And if you don’t have the technological skills, that are required these days, then I believe, that in the future, it will be hard for you to find a job.

Does the world become smaller and smaller?
